Jilin Zeng is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Government, Peking University. He earned his Master’s degree in Public Management and Bachelor’s degree in English and Sociology from Tsinghua University.
Jilin’s research interests lie at the intersection of state theory and comparative historical analysis, with a reginal focus on China. Through the development of several original historical datasets, his previous publications quantitatively examine the domestic causes of wars and the formation of patrimonial bureaucracy in Warring States China. Currently, he has been dedicated to exploring patronage and state building in Five Dynasties China, employing methodologies that integrate intellectual history and historical political economy.
