Dengyuhan (Jackie) Lei is a Ph.D. candidate in the Theory of Marxism at the School of Marxism, Tsinghua University, where he also earned his B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) in 2022 and M.A. in the Theory of Marxism in 2024.
His research interests lie in mass mobilization, party-building, and the history of the labor movement during the early 20th century, with a particular focus on situating revolutionary politics within broader questions of urban society, global networks, and state formation. His work has been published in Historical Research and History Research and Teaching (both in Chinese). Lei’s recent research examines the Chinese seamen’s movement and the Canton–Hong Kong Strike, exploring how labor activism linked Chinese port cities to revolutionary currents in East Asia and beyond. He is also interested in the conceptual and intellectual history of modern China.
