Yuan Liu is a Ph.D. student in Economics at the National School of Development, Peking University. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Wuhan University. His research interests include venture capital, innovation, banking, and the Chinese economy.
His current research examines the interactions among financial institutions, government regulation, and entrepreneurial activity in China. One strand of his work studies how shadow banking regulation affects venture capital financing and innovation among startup firms. He also studies the unintended consequences of government-led mergers among state-owned enterprises, focusing particularly on firms’ strategic responses. His research draws on firm-level microdata and applies empirical methods for causal inference.
