Xiangwei Wang

Wang Xiangwei is a veteran journalist, editor, and educator with more than three decades of experience in media and communications. Beginning August 2026, he will serve as a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School for a one-year term, where his research will focus on US–China relations.

Widely recognized as one of Asia’s foremost commentators on China and its international, Xiangwei authors the influential China Briefing column in the South China Morning Post—Asia’s leading English-language newspaper. Beyond the SCMP, his commentaries are frequently featured across prominent regional outlets, including Singapore’s CNA and Hong Kong’s Ming Pao. A sought-after voice on Chinese political and economic developments, he is regularly interviewed by leading international news organizations, such as Spain’s El País and Brazil’s Folha de S.Paulo.

Most recently, Xiangwei served as an Associate Professor of Practice at Hong Kong Baptist University from January 2023 through August 2026. Previously, he spent 26 years at the South China Morning Post, rising through senior editorial roles to serve as Editor-in-Chief from 2012 to 2016.
