Benny Subianto

Non-resident Research fellow, July 2024 - June 2025

Benny Subianto is a Jakarta-based researcher and consultant. His research interests are on politics of democratization, democratic regression, and politics of natural resources. He worked in democracy promotion during Indonesia’s democratic transition (1998 – 2004). He was the program consultant of Harvard Kennedy School Indonesia Program (2010 – 2015). He worked for Harvard Kennedy School Myanmar Program (2015 – 2019). He was a Democracy Visiting Fellow, at the Ash Center, Harvard Kennedy School in 2022. He is a non-resident fellow at the Ash Center beginning in August 2023. He graduated from University of Indonesia, Jakarta, majoring in sociology. He obtains his master’s degree in Southeast Asian History at the Department of History, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
