Alvin Tian is a passionate advocate for energy transition and decarbonization of the economy. He founded BlockCarbon, a blockchain-based project aimed at facilitating and accelerating China’s efforts to achieve carbon net-zero. Alvin has been a Mason Fellow at Harvard and a Sloan Fellow at MIT, where he has also earned an MPA degree and an MBA degree. His fields of study at Harvard and MIT include climate change, international relations, impact investing, venture capital, renewable energy, and blockchain.

Alvin has over ten years of experience in M&A, energy trading, and corporate investment. Most recently, Alvin led Shell’s investments in energy digitalization, FinTech, and digital logistics in China. Previously, Alvin was a M&A manager at Shell’s London headquarters, where he participated as a core member in some of Shell’s most high-profile deals, including the largest deal in Shell’s history, the merger with BG Group in 2015. While in London, he was also responsible for optimizing Shell’s $6 bln worth LNG shipping portfolio. Besides London, Alvin had also worked and lived in Boston, Beijing, Shanghai, and briefly in Tel Aviv.
